I think you made some good points, but I also think you missed some points and maybe the main point. You are comparing the size of 1 state in the U.S. to the entire continent of Europe. So while you say “It is surprisingly not as big as you might think”, when you think that Texas is larger, than France, it is larger than Spain, it is larger than the Ukraine, the only country it is not larger than in Europe is Russia, which is larger than the entire U.S. So I guess it is actually pretty large, contrary to your statement.

When you talk about population density you would expect a country that has been developed for thousands of years, might be a bit more population dense and have more “culture” than one whose development did not start until about 300 years ago, in the 1820’s when the first European settlers arrived in Texas. I am not downplaying that there were people here before that, American Indians, but most Texas tribes did not develop or build lasting dwellings like the Europeans did in Europe. The Caddo Indians in Texas built structures and had towns, and political systems, but still the structures were made of sticks and mud. Then once the Europeans arrived, their diseases devastated the cultures that had begun to develop in Texas. Overall compared to the “civilization” in Europe, Texas was in it’s infancy when the Europeans arrived. So I can’t agree, when I travel to Europe or when I lived in Europe, it/was mind boggling for me to think when in Spain, France or Italy that my native state, is larger than these individual countries, at least by land mass and that our GDP is about the same size as the largest country in Europe, Russia. I concede that our GDP is smaller than other European countries like France, Spain, Italy etc…. But considering what an infant we are in comparison, we aren’t thousands of years behind. As we say in Texas, and I hear all the time by my young nieces, I’m just sayin’….
